“This one came together very quickly, I initially downloaded this vocal first becuase I liked this song the best out of all of the Lights tracks in the remix competition but I found it wasn’t working out with my clubby Trance track I was writing so I set it aside and did the Banner remix instead. Came back to this later and checked to see how it fit with the Breaks track I had originally intended to use in the Toes remix and I liked the feel of it. I think it turned out pretty good for getting pieced together last minute and keeping me up all night long trying to make the deadline.”

“This is my nu-school Cybertrance remix. Inspired by AVICII and the portamento synths of the Cybertrance sound of yesteryear. :) I feel like this song could finish in the top 20 just because it is pretty different from the rest of the remixes. Most people did faster Dubstep type remixes because the original track is around 75 or 150 BMP range, but check it out and send me a vote.”

Excision “Get to the Point” and “Subsonic” Remix Contests

Excision currently holds the records over here at DMb for the most downloaded podcast, so we figured there’s bound to be some readers who would love to get a hold of some remix stems and possibly get your own record on his Rottun label. All genres welcome though I highly doubt you’ll see a Progressive Trance track winning this contest. Download links below.

From Excision:

In case you didn’t notice yet, there are no basses or drums provided in the stems. This is because we want you to show us your synthesis skills and your ability to make a proper track without having
everything handed to you.

In order to get noticed we recommend you spend the majority of your time inside the synthesizer of your choice to produce all of the sounds in the remix to the best of your ability. We’d rather you send
in something a month after the contest is over than send something you aren’t 100% confident in. Feel free to take this remix to another genre, or combine genres. We are open to hearing anything from
literally any genre. Drum and Bass to Electro House, Dubstep, Drumstep, chilled out music or any tempo you want. You have over a month to complete this remix, so experiment and have fun with it.

Do NOT make your submission down-loadable or listenable to the general public. (This is for promotional purposes if you win) Please submit privately via Soundcloud to the Excision Soundcloud account.

The winning remix will be released on Rottun Recordings, and we’ll probably ask you to do an EP for us as well. Do not be discouraged if your best friend has just completed the best remix known to man, we
may release two remixes or we may sign an artist for a future EP based on their submission regardless of them being the winner or not!

Deadline: February 1st, 2011

Free Music Fridays: Bangloose, Scissor Sisters, Siriusimo, Kelis, Plump DJs, Beatles, Willem

This week our featured artist is Bangloose from LA with their single “Smell Like”. We’ve also got some great remixes of Scissor Sisters’ new tracks and new track from Willem.

For Los Angeles recording artist Bangloose, staying ahead of the musical curve has always involved taking risks and exploring his creativity. Coming from Watts, he could have easily cast himself into the stereotype of another gangsta rapper flexing their street ties and toughness through their music, but instead he chose a different route.

Having seen the ups and downs of that lifestyle, he decided to use his artistic talents to pursue a style of music that would have his fans pumping their fists for much better reasons – fun and partying.

Embracing his versatility, he teamed up with producer DJ Urkel Dee to work on a new style of electronic and hip hop that they call “Electro from the Ghetto”, which combines his urban roots with the dance music scene. His latest single “Smell Like” personifies his signature style with fast rhythms, catchy samples and an infectious sound sure to keep listeners dancing.
