Thinking back through the past few years of alternative indie music to choose a song that epitomizes the change in styles while transcending its respective genre in looking towards the past seems to lead many music listeners into a stand still. However as the Tame Impala song “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” establishes, when trying to go forward we tend to take one step backwards.

Could the ulterior motive behind “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” be that the underlying message refers to more than relationships?–Either way Tame Impala have managed to capture the sentiment of a generation through their airy, psychedelic rock and in doing so have landed a spot in the most credited contemporary bands to date. That being said, covering one of today’s most recognized bands is no easy task, yet sister duo Say Lou Lou have done so in valiant fashion.

Sticking with a dream pop approach, Say Lou Lou capture many of the spacey, dream-enhancing elements that caused so many people to fall in love with “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” in the first place. Expanding on the established ideas the Aussie-Scandi duo cleanse the pallet with hushed vocals and eerie echoed backings that climb to a peak of hollow textures that ignite with either a fluttering tympani roll, or lush cymbals.

So sit back and enjoy the mellow vibe in this rendition of a future classic.
