These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop your searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let’s GO!

Summer has officially arrived, and the mashups keep on coming — what is this, like 4 weeks in a row? I’m hitting a groove, and this week is no different. 12 new mashups that are fun, innovative with their samples, and enjoyable. Can’t say there are as many EDM mashups this week, but that’ll happen from time to time. To start off with, we have newcomer DJ Jay-R with “Bone Thugs-N-Gangstas” which mixes iconic Bone Thugs-N-Harmony with Kat Dahlia. Hearing this mash, makes me realize just how underutilized Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is in mashups (at least to my knowledge), and quite frankly this needs to change. While I had never heard of Kat, her raw hip hop flow goes well over the beat and kinda maintains that old-school vibe that emanates from the instrumental. So if you’re a hip-hop mashup lover, then make sure to press ‘play’ and grab below. Fissunix‘s “Rapper’s Cantaloop” also has that old-school vibe courtesy of Sugarhill Gang but with a flair of trumpet work due to US3. It’s a different musical pairing, for sure, but it’s fresh and uniquely different…something you can always expect with this French masher.

It seemed to be a bit since The Hood Internet came out with a mashup (a pair of weeks according to Soundcloud), but this duo delivers a mellowed out rendition of Destiny’s Child‘s “Say My Name”. Personally, I love the instrumental as it seems to be more expansive in sound, which allows the trio of girls’ vocals to really mesh and carry throughout the song. One of the most divisive mashups in this week’s set is Isosine‘s “Radioactive Swimming Pools”. Pairing Kendrick Lamar with alternative rock band, Imagine Dragons, Isosine creates a mashup that I love one second, and the next am left scratching my head. The mash itself is powerful in nature, what with “Radioactive” being the lead instrumental, but Kendrick seems out of place and left floundering from time to time. But hey, this could just be me…sound off in the comments below with what you think.

Finally, I want to highlight LeeDM101‘s “Goodbye in the Water” and Apache‘s “Tree to Pretend”. Both vastly different mashups in emotion, style, and energy, but both impactful in their own right. Ellie Goulding takes center stage over Apparat‘s “Goodbye” with LeeDM101, leading to an emotionally driven, and chill mashup. Apache, on the other hand, taps into your dance moves (whether you have them or not) right way with MGMT and Snoop Dogg…err Snoop Lion gracing our speakers. MGMT’s “Time to Pretend” has been edited a bit as the lead instrumental, but it’s psychedelic in nature. A more than apt track to end this week’s Mashup Monday. As always, hit up the comments with suggestions and feedback, and until next week…
