Because Four Tet creates such lush and vibrant beats with emotion filled structures it is tough to produce a valid remixes of his work (Jamie XX‘s remix for “Lion” is good example of the right way to accomplish the feat). That being said, Atoms For Peace signed up for a big role is recreating one of the more popular songs off of Four Tet’s Pink and thankfully Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich (who make up two fifths of AFP) responded with a morphing beat that picks apart various electronic styles utilizing some of the best elements of each.
While it is nearly impossible to pin Four Tet to a specific genre with the excess of diverse material he puts out, generally falling under the gigantic scope of experimental, Atoms For Peace’s remix of “Pyrimid” takes on many of the same characteristics. At its core the AFP recreation is a shifting bass driven ride that is based around techno, electronica, and ambient elements. Chiming in at just under eight minutes, the majority of the Atoms For Peace remix is a long and steady build that leads in to a bass drop that is filled with all sorts of experimental rhythmic effects, which fade away for the finale.
This isn’t the first time that Four Tet and Thom Yorke have worked together — they had a stint with Burial back in 2011 and Four Tet has taken on the challenging role of recreating Radiohead’s work in the past.
