With over 10 years of bringing people together under the Lightning in a Bottle name, The Do Lab has given Southern California a camping festival that all other festivals will strive to emulate. From the “Environment First” approach to planning this event, to the many art installations, free filtered water, delicious and healthy food options, convenient camp locations, kids camp, excellent ticket handling, informative and beneficial workshops, speedy entry and exit of the event grounds, friendly security, to the excellent music, an attendee could not ask for anything more.

Some musical highlights for the DMb crew came mostly over at the groovy “House” stage. It wasn’t all house but the general crowd there seemed to be die hard Househeads and we melted right into the crowd there. Nick Warren’s set was definitely the number one highlight with a two hour set of straight up Progressive he kept us dancing the entire set. On the same stage Lee Burridge, and Justin Martin dropped excellent sets! On the Main Stage we were impressed by Shpongle who was playing less Psytrance than expected but nonetheless it had us moving. Tipper had, quite possibly, the best set on the Main Stage…Cerebral Experimental Psychedelic Dubstep for the masses. A bit of a disappointment on the main stage was Glitch Mob. They had some new props and nice visuals, but unfortunately that just didn’t help out on the dancefloor with far too many breaks and lulls in the music while everyone waited for the beat to come back in and stay in. So many great sets during the day that we never got DJ names for but loved all the same.

The Workshops are such a great thing: meditation, ufo talks, yoga, growing your own food, etc. The food court was good, mostly vegetarian healthy eats. The camping was amazing, every direction you turned there were beautiful people camped next to you always inviting and offering to share food and drinks. The Stage design is just jaw-dropping at night when the moon rises and the lights come on. The stages almost seemed to have grown organically out of the Earth where they later retreated back underground to wait for next year’s festival.

We look forward to 2013 and the next Lightning in a Bottle.
