The internet comes to a halt whenever Donald Glover releases his latest creative exploit. This time, the comedian/actor/producer/writer/director/rapper continues to build the hype around his sophomore album under the Wu-Tang Clan Name Generator-created moniker, Childish Gambino. After the diverse “Centipede” and “Yaphet Kotto” freestyle, we are finally getting a feel for the kind of material we’ll hear off the new album, Because The Internet, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The lyrical growth from the “hashtag rap” days of Camp through Royalty to the last few productions is astonishing; if this is any indication, Gambino will solidify himself as a rap behemoth by the time he’s through.

From seemingly spoken word-type bars to a whirlwind of syllables, Childish effortlessly transitions through contrasting flow and conviction, a testament to the progress made by Glover over his budding career. “3005” holds classic Gambino characteristics: the smooth-listening qualities make this an east track to become submerged in, and the wit is profuse throughout. Everything we have come to love from the multitalented emcee received a bump in quality in professionalism, leaving us eager over what has yet to come from arguably the most intelligent mind in popular culture.

Stream “3005” below and stay tuned for Because The Internet, slated to drop this winter break.
