We’re always curious as to what our favorite artists’ favorite tracks are.  Of course through performances and radio shows we can get a taste of these megastars’ go-to songs, but, like us, not everything they put on for a show would be their go-to track for day-to-day listening purposes. Well, today Laidback Luke, the internationally recognized Filipino/Dutch electronic artist, has given us a look into his iPod playlists, a sampling of tracks that span a day in the producer’s life when traveling on his current Musically Driven tour.

As one might expect, the Mixmash label head, who also has seen great success with the Ones To Watch sublabel, shows us a variety of tracks that cross the entire electronic spectrum. Take a listen to three songs from his road trip, pre-party, party party, and after party playlists and find out why Laidback Luke felt these tracks represent his different music moods.

On the Road (To the Party)

I love this type of 80s and retro sound and is what I usually listen to when I don’t listen to any electronic dance music. – Buy Empire Of The Sun – “Ice On The Dune”

Still listening to this and it’s so much fun. Love the heavy hip hop beats, I listen to a lot of Dilla and Neptunes instrumentals too. – Buy Madlib – Beat Konducta Vol 3. In India

Love these types of mashups. So much fun! A lot of times, music should be fun to me. This is why I came up with the Super You&Me concept, though I take the art and craft of DJing seriously, my main focus is that when people go out, they have a nice laugh and fun times! – Listen to “A Millie Tequila” (Colorblind Mashup) @ 10:55

At The Pre-Party

I would choose some lighter type of style tracks for this, to warm up for the night:

A nice medium energy type of big room track. Makes you want to sing along but dance, not rage, to the drop. -Buy Alexander Technique & Disco Killah -” Skyscraper” ft. Luca Masini) (Laidback Luke Remix)

A melodic type of Melbourne sound track I like, Will Sparks is the ruler of that sound. Will definately get you start feeling to dance. – Download Will Sparks – “All Night” Below

The vocals say ‘Counting down the minutes till tonight’, anticipating for the night. Another one in the big room/progressive kind of style to build up for the night. – Avicii vs David Guetta vs Laidback Luke – Till Sunshine (Tom Swoon Mashup)

Party All The Time

Now’s the time for heavy hitting tracks:

Ever since we’ve been using the 1234 intro for my Podcast, it gave the track a second wind. It still goes hard and makes you want to jump. – Buy Laidback Luke – “1234” (Feat Chuckie & Martin Solveig)

An ultimate festival chant-a-long type of energy track. Been playing this out a lot on the peaks of the nights and never disappoints me. – Listen to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – “Ocarina” (Bodybangers Remix)

Sometimes the party rages a bit too hard, and then it’s always good to step back and have the ladies sing along for a moment. Before bringing it back with a hard drop. – Calvin Harris & Kelis vs Laidback Luke, Majestic & Deorro – “Pogo Bounce” (Laidback Luke Mashup)

The After Party

I’d go way deeper here and would reach out to my deephouse/tech/techhouse selection:

Gina Turner is a big influence on my deeper sound. She just finished this one with Mitch De Klein which I signed to my label. It gives you that deeper and grittier bounce. – Listen to Gina Turner & Mitch De Klein – “Krew”

Gina put me on to this one too and it brings me back to my techno roots. Buy Nicole Moudaber – “Can I Get Some”

I like the head bob playing after party music, this one doesn’t have that much melodies, but it also takes me back to my chicago and deeper roots. – Buy TWR72 – “Merijn”
