The emergence of Boiler Room sets have done more than given camera time to wannabe scenesters, it’s also given spotlight to some of the upcoming gems from the underground. Such is the case with Maceo Plex‘s latest single “Going Back”, originally debuted in March as one of a number of IDs in his mystic 65-minute ride. True to his Ellum Audio imprint, this release delivers on deep and dirty bass, while still channeling smooth sex appeal of Florence Bird‘s vocals. Not to be forgotten on the production front is Maars, who is more than familiar with Maceo’s work as one-half of the duo Odd Parents.

The title lyrics find a comfortable repetition in the track, cushioned between hypnotic waves of rolling sub bass and thick drum lines. Regardless of the moniker he chooses, from Maceo Plex to Maetrik to Jupiter Jazz (with Danny Daze), the US-born, Spanish-based producer has crafted out an exceptional niche of dark disco meets future techno. After a busy summer schedule that included a residency at DC10 in Ibiza for Circo Loco parties, Maceo will continue his globetrotting across the Australian festival circuit late into the year, only to return back to the North American side for his first appearance on Holy Ship!!!
