The 80s are very much alive in the music of London producer Nick Gale, the mind behind the moniker Digital Farm Animals. Gale puts his own touch on the decade by managing to keep things modern and fresh, but everything about it still screams 80s. His debut Bugged Out EP offers three different tracks, each with different British vocalists to match the glitzy synth pop and disco funk of Digital Farm Animals.

Bugged Out’s opening “Bad Idea” is a huge pop track featuring vocals mainly by Holly Partridge and also by MNEK. Holly Partridge’s powerhouse vocals sound like British singer Jessie Ware, and instantly I want to join in to belt out the chorus. Next up is “Adore You.” It’s an 80s ballad, but don’t think that means cheesy. Ofei‘s deep and soulful vocals have me thinking Grace Jones. It gives the track a very regal feel. “Buggin’” is the EP’s closer, and probably the most fun track. The funk gets turned way up and Tyson joins in, providing vocals. Everything about it reminds me of Prince associates The Time.

Even though there’s a distinct 80s sound present on the Bugged Out EP, the variety between these tracks shows the versatility of Digital Farm Animals. I wonder what else he is capable of producing.  Grab the entire EP for free by liking the Digital Farm Animals Facebook page.
