Every now and then, it’s more than necessary to kick back and chill out. Freddie Joachim has seemingly dedicated his life to providing the soundtrack for such times. Last year, Joachim released his 4th album, FIBERGLASS KISSES, to a warm reception, but he has maintained a relatively low profile since then. Today, he let loose a smooth jam that will hopefully mark the start of the next wave of his career.

Freddie Joachim has an eclectic approach to producing music. There is simply no genre he won’t touch. He tackles tracks in a both distinct and succinct way that requires extreme tact and a refined sense of style. Though his palate of sound is very diverse, everything for him is still fundamentally jazz, and he has a knack for finding the connection.

Toro y Moi’s chillwave stylings aren’t too far removed from jazz themselves, and it feels like a match made in heaven when the two are brought together. Freddie Joachim’s remix of “Day One” doesn’t completely re-imagine the original, but it does feel refreshingly original in its own right. The heavy drums and light bells complement each other nicely, and the overall mellow vibe will probably leave your muscles feeling completely relaxed. Is it better than the original?
