Disclosure‘s “When a Fire Starts to Burn” is a stunning work of vocal samples and a catchy bassline, a song filled to the brim with influences of funk, garage, and sprinkled in with a dash of soul, however, for most people interested in the brothers, it was probably beaten to death into our brains by the sheer fact that all of their songs have been everywhere this year.
To be perfectly clear, this isn’t meant as any form of malice at them “blowing up,” they rightfully deserve the attention they have received. Both brothers have managed to show the world that to love music means that nothing else matters, and that their loyalty to their style and sound has reached and touched people in ways previously unimagined. The two young men have highlighted a lot of the changes that have occurred in the music world, and with no compromises made on their end, they have truly shown that they are masters of making catchy music anyone can enjoy (ask my grandmother for proof).
Bell Biv Devoe is, for anyone that has yet to recognize the iconic ” That Girl is Poissssoooonnnn” line that has made them a bit of a household name, an offset of New Edition that released their first work (as BBD) in the early nineties. “Poison” was their biggest success, climbing up the charts of the once iconic Billboard Top 100.
This week features an amazingly funky combination of the two stellar tracks, a stunning job done by The Hood Internet. There isn’t much to be said except this mashing is simultaneously unpredictable and unexpected, yet brimming with perfection. While the original beat was already stellar with the motivational speaker being used as the main vocal sample, the power of Bell Biv Devoe’s singing prowess truly highlight the beauty of Disclosure’s work and also bring the talent behind BBD to the modern age of dance music. Overall, it’s so good it might as well have been an original work of art.
The Hood Internet has shows all over the US for the rest of the year, and they have an album out now. Disclosure’s Settle is also out now, with shows happening (and selling out) from now until 2014.
