While many of us spent last week watching Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” to see a side (sides) of Miley that we hadn’t seen before, California producer and remixer extraordinaire Woody’s Produce was in the lab creating his own Miley masterpiece. You may remember Woody from his acclaimed work on the Woody x The Notorious B.I.G.: Remixed project and the Woody x Kanye West: Remixed album. In both of those works he was able to provide fresh takes on “classics,” and at times, outperformed them. His remix of “Wrecking Ball” is no exception. Woody’s use of synths, high-hats, and bass amplify Miley’s roller coaster of emotion creating a richer track. The latter half of the record, around the 2:20 mark, is my personal favorite as Woody fills the production element by element only to strip it away for a brief moment and then release it in a burst of sonic beauty. So, pull up the “Wrecking Ball” video, mute the volume, play this remix, and get the best of both worlds.
