You might have noticed that so many of the retro electro tunes are instrumentals, mainly because it’s difficult to capture the sound of the 1980’s vocal style. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Story of the Running Wolf’s “Stratospheric,” remixed by Lost Years, has rediscovered this vocal power. It works its neon charm deep into the lyricism. If you close your eyes, you can hear a bit of The Cure and Tears For Fears. It helps that the track opens with a bright piano arpeggio and what sounds like cars in the rain before moving to the staples: synth bass and reverbed drums. We’re asked, “How can you dance with a heavy heart?” But I don’t think that’s going to be a problem here.
