Well this is just an absolutely fantastic way to end this hump day. It feels like forever and a day since we’ve heard from Dave 1 and P-Thugg, better known as the Canadian electronic funk duo Chromeo. And this week they’ve made a foursome (and showed us that they’ve still got good taste) by collaborating with the LA-based nu-disco duo on the rise Oliver on one of the most exciting remixes I’ve seen in a long time: from the one, the only Donna Summer. And it’s not just any of the iconic pop diva’s records, but her breakout 1982 smash “Love is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)” that helped to certify her as a real star. The record label Verve has taken a break from its usual scarce remix compilation releases to release this gem of a single this week.

The remix that Chromeo and Oliver have crafted here is such an embodiment of both duos’ styles. Straight out of the 80’s – literally from both its original release date and from the pumped up jazz synths used in production – it is a track that makes us realize that if appropriated the right way, the 80’s were, in fact, a great time for music. Lastly, this take on “Love is in Control” simply proves that no one can amp up disco pop quite like Chromeo can. Welcome back guys!
