LA-based punks FIDLAR have reworked their 2012 track “Awkward,” complete with artwork that features as uncertain little kids, yet to be tainted by draw of drugs and rock and roll. The song was previously called “AWWWKWAARRRDDD” and originally featured English singer-songwriter Kate Nash on guest vocals. The new version sounds slightly more polished and manages to capture more of the awkward 1990s one-hit-wonder, geek-rock aesthetic that had once been produced by songs like “Teenage Dirtbag” if you can still remember that. Our jaded generation is probably lacking in these punk rock anthems about being weird and getting dumped, so its nice to have a band like FIDLAR step up and fill the void. What more could you expect from a band whose name is an acronym for “fuck it dog, life’s a risk.”
