Friend Within is an artist shrouded in mystery. Though his/her identity remains a secret, the producer continues to bless us with some of the best sounds in house music of the year. After first releasing the mesmerizing floor filler “The Game” back in February via Dirtybird, the abstruse musician has been causing quite a stir in a very cunning, behind-the-scenes manner; one can only guess as to whom this alias pertains to.

Released on the newly formed Method Records, marking the first release Disclosure‘s label, The Renegade EP starts off with the much hyped self-titled track, sampling the monumental classic “Renegade Master” (which, if you’ve been listening to house music for more than 5 minutes, you’ll know those infectious lines). Although it seems like the song has been sampled to death, Friend Within breathes new life and revitalizes the much played tune, offering some excellent grooves that’ll be filling up dance floors from club to club.

Following that, “The Scene” is an equally cool track, combining some upbeat and bouncy flavours with a Ric Flair-esque “woo.” “The Birth” contains some late night funky, yet sinister feelings that’ll get everyone moving, while the final track, “The Work,” features some smooth and lush vocals by Pete Josef, who’s collab is the closing track on the EP. All and all, an excellent project that you should definitely check out.
