If you haven’t listened to Groovebox yet, now is the time to start paying attention to the guy who might just be the next big name in the underground dance music world. Holding the #1 spot atop Beatport’s Tech House Top 100 chart for some weeks with “Brooklyn,” releasing “Strictly Funk” with Phunk Investigation last week (that’s now in the top 40 tech house tracks on the same chart), and now today partnering with the one and only UMEK on another stellar production this week, the Spanish producer is certainly on a roll. Using a thorough sample from Q-Tip’s 1999 hit “Breathe and Stop,” “Cause & Effect” is simultaneously nostalgic for that specific American hip hop sound of that era, updated with that specific Eastern European techno groove that UMEK has perfected in his 20 years of producing, and now, Groovebox’s undeniable talent at bringing back 90’s era classics back onto the dance floor.
